Microneedling Toronto: Everything You Need to Know About SkinPen Treatments

Last updated: July 2026

Microneedling in Toronto is one of the most requested skin treatments at Allana Davis Studio in Yorkville - and for good reason. Whether you're dealing with acne scars, fine lines, hyperpigmentation, or uneven texture, our Health Canada and FDA-approved SkinPen delivers real, lasting results for virtually all skin tones.

What Exactly Is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure performed at Allana Davis Studio in Toronto's Yorkville neighbourhood using the SkinPen - a Health Canada and FDA-approved device. Microneedling creates precise, controlled micro-injuries that stimulate your skin's natural healing process, also known as collagen induction therapy (CIT) or percutaneous collagen induction (PCI).

The result is effective remodelling of scar tissue, plus a measurable boost in collagen and elastin production. SkinPen's safety and effectiveness have been validated in numerous peer-reviewed studies and published journals.

What Skin Concerns Does Microneedling Treat?

This is one of the most common questions we get at our Toronto studio - and the answer is impressive. SkinPen effectively targets a wide range of skin concerns, including:

  • Acne scarring
  • Fine lines and deep wrinkles
  • Large pores
  • Hyperpigmentation and melasma
  • Uneven skin texture and tone
  • Scar tissue remodelling

Clients at our Yorkville location are consistently amazed by their results and excited to continue their treatment journey.

Does Microneedling Hurt?

Some clients experience mild discomfort during treatment. We always begin with a numbing cream (MAXILENE) to keep you comfortable throughout. Most clients describe the sensation as a slight warmth or tightness - very manageable, and well worth the results.

What Can I Expect After My Microneedling Treatment?

After your microneedling session at Allana Davis Studio, your skin may appear slightly red - similar to a mild sunburn. This is completely normal and typically resolves within 24-48 hours. After 24 hours, you can apply makeup if needed.

First two weeks: You may notice mild skin flaking as your complexion reveals a smoother surface. Some clients experience a brief purging phase - this is a normal part of the healing process.

Weeks 3-6: Enjoy firmer, plumper, more even-toned skin and all the compliments that come with it.

How to Prepare for Your Microneedling Appointment

Pre-treatment tips:

  • Avoid alcohol 48 hours before your appointment - it thins the blood and increases bruising
  • Discontinue retinol, AHAs, and other exfoliants 7 days before treatment
  • Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning beds 72 hours before treatment (no self-tanner either - it can cause a tattoo effect)
  • Avoid ibuprofen for 7 days before treatment - acetaminophen is safe up to and including the day of your appointment

Microneedling Aftercare

  • Treat your skin gently for the first few days - no picking at any flaking or peeling
  • Nourish with products recommended by Allana Davis Studio
  • Avoid prolonged UV exposure for the first few days and apply SPF after the first 24 hours

After 72 hours, you'll notice your skin beginning to glow. Full results continue to improve over several weeks. You can expect visible skin tightening and pore reduction after just one treatment, though a series of treatments is recommended for maximum results - particularly for acne scarring.

How Does Microneedling Compare to Laser Treatments?

Laser treatments can address certain specific conditions, but they come with more downtime, higher risk, and - importantly - are not safe for all skin tones. At Allana Davis Studio, we chose SkinPen microneedling precisely because it is inclusive:

"We opted to offer microneedling with SkinPen at ADS because it is inclusive, minimally invasive with minimal to no downtime, and yields absolutely flawless results for just about anyone!"

Is Microneedling Safe for Everyone?

At Allana Davis Studio, integrity is at the core of everything we do - including how we educate our Toronto clients about their skin.

Microneedling is a safe and effective procedure when performed by a trained professional, but it is not suitable for everyone. A thorough consultation is always the first step. Those on blood thinners, certain acne medications, or with active acne flare-ups, rosacea, eczema, or dermatitis may not be ideal candidates. Microneedling should never be performed on active acne breakouts, as it can spread bacteria.

Potential risks include infection at needle insertion points, hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, and in rare cases, keloid scarring. Our consultation process is in-depth and considers your full health history, medications, supplements, and current skincare routine.

If you have sensitive skin or any of the above conditions, we invite you to book a complimentary in-person or virtual consultation at our Yorkville studio.

A Brief History of Microneedling

Microneedling traces its roots to 1952, when French physician Michel Pistor developed the mesotherapy technique - a procedure using superficial injections to deliver medication locally. Microneedling evolved from this concept, using microchannels to stimulate the skin without medication. Today, it is one of the most sought-after treatments for deep wrinkles and acne scarring worldwide.
